Ugh, Tony, that really sucks. Planning weddings is super stressful as it is! Unfortunately I don't live anywhere helpful, but I hope you find something quicksmart!

Theobalds Park Cheshunt - I went for a conference there and it seemed quite posh and the grounds are lovely

I would suggest Forty Hall, Enfield but they are having refurbishment done too from November

Totally depending on the date, can I suggest you speak with my colleague, Sophie O'Reilly, at Westminster College? Gorgeous 1899 building, oak panels in the dining hall, not booked up and trying to encourage wedding business in.

It does rather depend on what you had in mind for the party, as students (sensitive ones) live on site, as do the other academic staff... but we're worth at least looking at.

The wedding bit is brand spanking newly approved by various committees so there is very little on there yet about it, and we're in the process of overhauling the website.

Email admin@westminster.cam.ac.uk if you're interested!

Oh, and it's in central Cambridge - and there's parking available. Might be outside of your hit zone but...

Have a look at http://www.woolstonmanor.co.uk/ at Loughton, been there with work for Christmas our outing as seemed pretty good. Also the website shows they've got an open day on this Saturday for weddings.

AMS holdings is also round the corner if you want to firebomb it.

Eastbury Manor in Barking? A real Tudor Manor, refurbished quite tastefully. I second Theobalds as well, stunning roccoco bits, though the bar and restaurant are disappointingly modern.
