Actually they used TWO good cliffhangers. The reveal of Moriarty (cos pretty much every Sherlock Homes series [tv or otherwise] does a slow reveal of Moriarty) and then Reichenbach.
Oh right!
I ALWAYS avoid these stories because there is no REASON to bash Mary. Look at her in the stories, never once do you see her whining at John to stay at home. Mary doesn't do that. Most series just avoid the whole Mary question and so far I'd say RDJ Films have done the best by making her into a smart independent woman who doesn't need a husband and is willing to parry with Sherlock when ever she meets him. In the RDJ films HE is the instigator in their confrontations, never Mary.*NODS* I love Movie Mary. :D I would actually love to see her join in on the adventures. No need to kill her off! (One of the oddest, yet extremely good, fanfics I've read is one where Holmes was transgender and Watson had no idea. Holmes wound up pregnant (not by Watson) and Mary and Watson hid Holmes away to have the baby and pretend it was Mary's. In the

I couldn't find anything on your Tumblr link (maybe b/c I'm not signed in?), but when I googled to find out what was said at the panel, I found...this. I mean, people can ship whoever they want to ship, but some of these people are delusional.
That link. XD (It might be dying down on tumblr now.)
OUAT fandom ships seem particularly rabid about being "canon." Maybe it's a lot of people's first ships/fandoms? So they don't quite get the concept of shipping without it happening onscreen?
Whenever I need a dose of fandom wtfuckery, I head over to any number of shipping tags for OUAT. XD
I bet you have something there with that "first ship" theory. A lot of these people were probably too young to be shippers when HP was out, so they didn't have that whole "no, JK Rowling won't be writing Draco/Harry/Sirius/Hermione/Dobby/theSortingHat together in the sixth book...but that's okay, because that's exactly why fanfiction exists" learning curve some of the rest of us have had.
I really want to shake them all and be like "dude, the fun is in pulling the subtext out of practically nothing! Stop trying to get validation you're never going to get!" and maybe also make them take an interpreting texts class.
I know. VM looks good. Love the water scene with the guys, it was like Come at me bro. Tina looks good. Sad that Shonda did not extended her contract for Grey's.
