I am with you SO HARD on all the Moriarty stuff. I didn't mind Andrew Scott's portrayal (I know that in itself is a hit and miss thing) but I think Moriarty in general is over used in Sherlock Holmes adaptations and no one ever makes him interesting enough (there isn't even anything to work with in the books since he was a case of 'tell don't show'). Elementary is the only show that's managed to make Moriarty even slightly interesting to me and the entire reason why is a huge spoiler. So the only thing I care about with his return is how pathetic the explanation is going to be (since we watched him blow his own brains out on screen...that's pretty dead in a show without the supernatural

For me it's the whole hate package. I didn't like Andrew Scott's portrayal and I didn't like how everything related to Moriarty in S1 and S2 and I DO NOT LIKE HIM COMING BACK.
However, I didn't really enjoy the episode that much. It just pipped The Blind Banker into place as second worst episode for me (first worst obviously Scandal). I liked lots

But Mary is the greatest thing to come out of season three! I was really worried, especially after the 'Liar' thing in episode one (which was noticed by many and one of the reasons why this episode was so predictable), that she would be killed or try to hurt John. So I was really relieved when she was just someone with a bad past who loves John and wants to make a life with him. Because there is no one who would understand Sherlock and his relationship with John more and makes it so easy to integrate her into the partnership we know and love.
Seriously never OT3ed so hard in my life! And there is going to be a baby for Uncle Sherlock to corrupt! If there is anything LEFT to corrupt after mummy and daddy turn the baby into the most badass toddler in the universe! This girl is going to eat other kids...and her teachers...and criminals who try to use her as a 'pressure point' for breakfast!
I KNEW YOU WOULD AGREE WITH ME ON THE MORIARTY BUSINESS. I AM CONSOLING MYSELF WITH THE FACT THAT IT WILL BE MORIARTY'S BROTHER WHO RETURNS (or at least someone in his network). THAT SAID, WHO EVER THEY USE WILL NEED A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
UGH. I'm REALLY hoping it's someone else playing puppetmaster. I'd even accept that it was Mycroft - he's always going to bail out Sherlock.
On Moriarty, I agree with you. I never bought into why he was doing it all, nor bought that someone that unhinged could ever be the head of some criminal organization.
I also think that Moffat wrote himself into a corner with the whole Magnussen Mind Palace plot twist at the end. I enjoyed this plot arch, it was as you said tense in a way that Moriarty arch never was. But sorry, I don't care how brilliant you are but that's fucking stupid to rely on your brain to remember all that information. There is just no way something like that is possible. Sure the concept of a mind palace can help you remember a lot but not that much. And

Yeah, in that sense it was fairly ridiculous. HIS MIND IS A SUPER COMPUTER!!!! I'm not sure there's anyone who's actually really like that. And for it to be based on reality means all those pesky things have to make actual sense. :D
It was like ALMOST A PERFECT SERIES. Well, not perfect but nothing pissed me off! Which is perfect for Moffat. AND THEN IN THE LAST SECONDS HE PISSES ME OFF.
I completely agree with this whole post! I realize that Moffatiss are massive trolls, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were lying every time they insisted that Moriarty was dead, but I'm not buying it. Not that I care; I'm over Moriarty and have been for a while.
I only just watched this ep (and it actually only just finished playing a few minutes ago) so I've been spoiler dodging. I've been pretty successful, but have seen enough random things to get the impression that people are not happy and/or did not like the episode. And I'm not sure why! I wasn't blown away by it like I expected to be after I saw all the BAFTA screening reactions (and I must confess I've been a bit underwhelmed with the whole season - can't quite put my finger on why, but I expected more), but I thought it was good and I did like it. *shrugs*
I quite liked it too! I haven't investigated much into why people didn't like it. The few snips I've seen here and there include not enough John and Sherlock time, expecting something different, and Mary forgiven too easily?
Of course, now that I'm no longer avoiding spoilers, the posts are nowhere to be found! I haven't really gone digging either, but Mary definitely seems to be a big bone of contention from what I have seen. And complaints about John seeming to not care about Sherlock anymore. I'm starting to wonder if watched a different show. :-P
One thing we "all" seem to be in agreement on, is the Moriarty thing being anticlimactic because no, do not want.
I'm a bit surprised that not everyone's a Mary fan. The actress is great and the character is interesting. Plus she's got great chemistry with an already great duo.
I'm leaning towards Moriarty being Mycroft's invention in order to keep Sherlock in the country.

It's like a bunch of fanfic fantasies came true!

Now if they'd just move into Baker Street, all would be well!

*pets* I'm sorry. Like, there's a lot of things I hate about BBC Sherlock, but Moriarty is *particularly* terrible.
