TV Reaction: Supernatural "Hello, Cruel World"

Oct 01, 2011 23:56

No details, no spoilers, just reaction.

So, it's been a while since I watch Supernatural in real time. Hence, I didn't watch until today. Call it time-delayed squee because dude, where has season 7 been? It should have shown up seasons before! LOL.

It was angsty, it was scary, the boys were awesome in their own unique way and the soap opera, emo, verbal hand-wringing dialogue finally went down a notch.

The episode had a film of creepy, scary, darkness that didn't shake loose even after a car did a faceplant on the leviathan.

AND THEY TORCHED BOBBY SINGER'S HOUSE! EVIL, WATER ORGAN MUNCHING SLIMEBALLS MUST PAY!

Er, I know I said no spoilers but I hope I can be forgiven for that one because that moment was all-caps worthy. LOL.

Plus, Mark Pellegrino was still a delight to behold. Whereas he was just "Eek! Luci!" two seasons back, here we get the full scale ooey, gooey creepy charm. Dude, he's scary even when he's funny!

Sam's break was powerfully done, like a snowball rolling unavoidably downhill, getting bigger and bigger until, crap, no way to avoid it. We knew he was going to break eventually. Dean was waiting for it, angsting over it but I liked how instead of going over the top like they did with 99.99% of the show last year, they oscillated between competence, control and just plain bonkers. And the warehouse scene? Wow! Big brother Dean is back! Yay!

And Bobby's talk with Dean made me want to hug him through my screen. I even didn't mind so much the "best friend" part of the speech. Cas did dissolve in a lake after all and that was a downer for Dean.

Like I said, no real spoilers here (except for above all shouty cappy thing) but oh boy, I may have to start watching it in real time again. I haven't been this excited about SPN in a while. Please, let's hope the show keeps it up!

Keep your fingers crossed!
