Playing Catch-up...

I feel like I'm a day behind here. Granted, sleeping through most of Sunday probably contributed to that feeling.

So, here is what happened to my weekend:

Friday
Pretty typical day. But we ran home one train earlier to suit up for softball. It was my first game in something embarrassingly close to 20 years, and I was due on the pitcher's mound. Lovely. This is what happens when I open my mouth - I get myself signed up for things I might not necessarily have time for. It never fails.

But I pitched the second half of the first game, and then the first half of the second game. And I got a lot of compliments on it. I walked a few. I struck a few out. But there were a lot of balls hit out to our outfield that night. That's what coach said was supposed to happen - get the pitches in there so that they can be hit, and, let the rest of the team handle what hits the field. Alrighty then. That's what I will do!

Saturday
Well, maybe going to Chili's after the game with most of the team wasn't such a great idea, considering I had to finish putting my stuff together for Saturday's wedding. My first gig as a full-fledged Wedding Coordinator - woo! I felt a little nervous going into this one, since I'd not seen the venue, nor had we done a rehearsal. So I made darn sure I got there early.

As it turns out, the venue was beautiful. The rain held off. The outdoor ceremony went off as planned and everything else moved like clockwork. The site coordinator, at first, got on my nerves. But then I reminded myself - hey, this is her responsibility. She's got to look out for her venue. So, since it's her venue, this goes down by her rules. Fair enough. And when she saw I was working both with her and within her rules, she got very nice and helpful with me. Perhaps seeing me out in the freshly-mowed grass with a rake picking up the clumps of grass to keep my bride's gown from getting green stains might be part of what turned her around.

As the reception wound down, several of the guests came up to me to ask if I was the one responsible for the timeline and the day's events. While I can't claim responsibility for much of it, as I was only hired to be a day-of coordinator, I did have a lot of input into things like linen colors, the programs (I did design them), some of the reception decor, etc. And the timeline? Yeah. I did that. And I kept them on schedule and in sync with the caterer, the band, etc. Things flowed like clockwork, and I kept a quiet eye on the guests from a corner and stepped in to steer the happy couple to the next event when nudging was needed. Several of the guests complimented me afterwards, about how fun and smooth everything ran. Nobody was bored. And things didn't go by too quickly, either.

Icing on the cake (pun not intended) -- the site/venue coordinator allows people to come see the site while an event is going on there. A young asian couple came by to visit, and the site coordinator insisted on introducing me to them. Their wedding is planned for August, with over 200 guests. They need a full planner/coordinator to help from square one. And the lady at the venue very strongly recommended me to them. They left with my phone numbers and email address. :)

I climbed in my car, exhausted but satisfied, a little after 5:30pm to start the trek home from Gaithersburg.

But the day was not yet done for me -- Jim and I went to a birthday party that evening in Ashburn, and it was close to 2am before I collapsed in bed. I must have been asleep the moment my body hit the bed, because I only vaguely remember snuggling down with the doglets (all 3 of them!). When the alarm went off at 7am, they were still in the bed.

Sunday
Ah... what can be better than a lazy Sunday, waking up sandwiched between a trio of weiner dogs and my Jim? Well, it was a tad warm, so, I banished the doglets back to their own beds, and, re-set the alarm for 8am, for church.

Ummm... yeah. That didn't happen. I turned the 8am alarm off, and did not budge again anywhere close to wakefulness until about 11:30. Feeling sorry for the doglets who had waited all that time for a potty excursion, I got up and let them outside. And then crashed right back on the couch again. I roused a little bit for food, but it was somewhere close to 3:30 before I really put myself upright and started moving around for real.

Hmmm... I must have really needed that. I slept pretty okay Sunday night, too.
