More neighbour woes

Jun 22, 2010 16:57

It's still nice to be home but less nice to be on the receiving end of more grief from my nosy neighbours . They've sent me a letter explaining why they think I'm in breach of various laws on my roof repairs. I've sent a bland response back to explain that we're not and that the work has been duly certified by the buildings inspector . As usual, ( Read more... )

It sounds infuriating. I hope it dies down very soon.

My sympathies. Given that his interference is costing you not insubstantial sums of money, would it be very wrong of me to suggest that next time you are obliged to write to him, you point out that if he persists in taking up your time dealing with him, you will (with regret, of course!) be forced to charge him your professional hourly rate? Either that or invoice him for the additional costs you have taken on. Trouble is (and yes, I appreciate that it's easy for me to say; I don't have to live next door to him), if you don't deal with his behaviour, he will carry on. He sounds very ... traditional... in his dealings with people - maybe it would work best if Roger could be very firm with him.

I think Roger would be happy to glower silently while I do the talking. I will suggest it to him.

He's pretty fed up about this too as you can imagine.

glad to see you back, and it sounds like it was a lovely honeymoon! :)

sorry to hear that obnoxious neighbour is still on the job. back in my legal secretary days, there used to be a procedure for declaring somebody a 'frivolous and vexatious litigant', meaning that cases they brought would be summarily thrown out of court, with costs awarded against them. I wonder whether there's some local council procedures equivalent to this - it certainly sounds like what's needed. or an ASBO for harrassment.

This sounds very irritating - please accept sympathies. It sounds as though you are being very sensible and rational. What is this bloke hoping to achieve, FFS?

Apparently, he wants to go up on our roof and inspect the work before it goes any further, otherwise he will "make trouble" for us. We've offered him use of Roger's binoculars to inspect the roof from ground level but we can't let members of the public go on the scaffolding for obvious reasons.

He's also alleging that the builders took something off his roof without asking him .

Yesterday evening his son came round to put the case.

I intend to ring our insurers later today as I believe we have legal cover on our policy and ask their advice.
