Well, musical cats really.
Some of you might recall in February when we lost Spencer the little siamese kitten we had bought for Troll, the breeder offered us the 'loan' of his cat Little Flower until she came into season, whereupon she was to return to him for mating and then come back to us to have her kittens. Troll was then to have the joy of raising them and having the pick of the litter.
Well, that was six months ago and Little Flower had only been in season the once and that was while the breeder was interstate for a month, so in order to encourage things along a bit he decided that Little Flower should come home, be in her own environment and around his tom cat and he expects she shall come into season pretty quickly. She has been showing some signs of being close to just that lately too, so I think he is right.
Because he is a generous man, and very kind, while Little Flower is visiting home, he offered for his favourite kitten to come visit us. Her name is Serenity and she is a four month old bluepoint female. He adores her utterly and says as I get the hard work of taking his wild cats then it is only fair we get to spend time with a nice one for a change.
This is such a cool thing. I get to have the novelty of 'new' cats on a regular basis, while our actual number of cats stays pretty much the same.
So, yesterday afternoon, Troll and I bundled up Little Flower into the cat carrier and off to her home.
Here she is in the morning curled up with tygrr on my bed
Poor tygrr's going to miss her while she's gone!
And here is Serenity - one of the cutest kittens I have seen in a long time
She is such a placid little girl. Even though she has been uprooted from her home and all she has ever known, even though she may have been shivering in fear when picked up by a total stranger last night, she never showed a vicious bone in her body. She just sat, blinked and took the time to see what was going to happen.
For the time being, as she is so small, and until she gets to know us a little, she is in the bathroom as we do with all the new cats. She won't be in there for long though, I suspect. As soon as she gets to know us a little I think she will be out and about in the house quite happily. She really is the most adorable little thing and it's very clear troll loves her to bits already.
In other news, Masked Lady has just finished being in season again and is not ill this time so keep fingers crossed that her mating with Biscuit might be fruitful. In yet more news it seems to me this morning that Jasmine may have come into season for the first time. So we may end up with not one but TWO litters of siamese kittens. Biscuit will be pleased no doubt. He is always disgruntled when the girls go off heat as he has no one to canoodle with!
I hope he enjoys it, as I plan on getting him desexed in the next week or two. He was never intended to be a breeding cat and I want him fixed so he can sleep in my room at night. He can't at the moment as he gets up at 4am feeling horny and prowls around yowling!
Now, on a completely different topic - or maybe not, as tygrr is feline as well - tomorrow (1st September) is tygrr's 30th birthday. And in true Aussie tradition she has gone out with some of her workmates this morning after work for some 'birthday drinks'. She's never experienced this aussie tradition before so it shall be interesting to see what state she's in when I go to pick her up later. And yes, I am driving 30km to pick her up as there is no way I was going to let her drive home after this. Yes, this also meant I had to drive the 60km round trip late at night last night to take her to work too!
But hey, you only turn 30 once and our house is not big enough to entertain and have a party - standing room for four only in our lounge or dining room really. So this way she gets to have her cake and eat it too - party with her workmates and go out to dinner with us tomorrow night as well. And yes, she IS getting a cake - apparantly one of the women from work is going to bring one to the drinks, which will be an interesting taste combination I think...lol
In the meantime, troll is off school today as she has finally succumbed to the dreaded flu that has been going around, so later we shall make use of the tygrr's absence and go buy her birthday presents!
I tell you what, she's sure been a spoilt tygrr lately - brand new car sitting in the driveway, a weekend away and now a birthday as well!
But you know, she's worth every bit of it and what's more, I am so pleased that at last, after all the sacrifices she made to come here to be with me, she is finally able to have a life again... *smiles*
