[The End is always weakest while consuming, while gorging itself on a world full of life or even a tiny morsel. But now, as it focuses on the single creature that it had ever truly struggled with, the only self-aware entity who had the absolute temerity to survive, it clings to Redd stubbornly, refusing to give up this prize

The ship stopped, she stumbled, her gun falling from her hand and skidding a few feet away from her body. She fell to her knees, finally. This battle was over. Her adrenaline rushing, her heart hammering against her ribs. She let out a short sob.]
So this is it.
[Her voice shook as she spoke, mostly to herself. This was all so surreal. This ship- after her death it had become her new life. Her new life with which she shared with Jethro. Like she'd failed to in her real life, her life before this place.
She dropped her head to her hands, and for the first time in over sixteen years, she broke down. She sobbed so hard her whole body shook violently, tears soaked her face, her hands. The rain felt so nice against her wounds, but she was numbed to everything right now. She could bring herself to do no more than cry- be weak. For the first time in so long.]

Still in a state of shock, he lurched to his knees when the ship suddenly stopped. When he finally found his footing again, he spotted her. He ran, leaping over the fallen and those in shock, ignoring each twinge in his knee. He needed to get to her now.]
Jen, I'm here.
[This was so surreal - the battle, the bodies, everything. He had experience with living through this once before. He could handle this. Jen couldn't, though. He pulled her into his arms as she sobbed and held her as she worked through everything that had happened. It would take time, but he would help her work through this. He had helped her through her first kill, and he could do this again.]
I'm never going to let you go.

Jethro, is it really over?
[She was afraid to look, she could still smell the thick stench of blood, it made her nauseous. She simply curled further into him, sobbing harder. He'd never seen her cry- she realized. Even that thought couldn't stop her. She grasped his damp and slightly torn shirt and pressed as close as physically possible.
She needed this.]

I think so. Boat's stopped.
[He gently kissed her temple and rubbed her back through her wet, bloodied, and torn shirt. Part of him wanted to talk to her, reassure her that it would all be okay, but he couldn't find the words. Instead, he just held her, hoping that his presence would help calm her.
He had seen men try to deal with the carnage of battle. Some coped, some didn't. He had seen too many good men end their lives over this. He would make sure Jen didn't turn down that road. He loved her too much for that.]

With some serious effort Kevas pushes himself up to his feet. This is no time to rest. There's still more work to be done.]
Where be Muddah?

[He glances down at the troll, shifting to offer him a big metal leg to stand on, just in case.]
Where did they take her?

Not sure, but I t'ink it be best if we found out.
[He pauses for a moment as he tries to think of what to do next.]
We gonna haftah split up. Some look fuh Muddah and some loo fuh da bridge.
[He looks over his shoulder at the rest of the passengers.]
We gonna need some to help da wounded too.

Which one you want to take? The female, the bridge... or repairing the wounded?
[As long as it's not playing doctor, Ironhide intends to go off on whichever expedition Kevas doesn't pick. He's a terrible medic, anyway.]

She looks mildly traumatized, but really, who hasn't been traumatized by this entire experience?]

For a long moment, she just stares at Matt before making up her mind and leaning up to kiss Matt. She's just so happy they're both alive and well.]

You guys, uuhhh...You know that Christmas is in just two days. Maybe we can make the best of this and be a happy family.

You are still functioning.
[Is...IS THAT RELIEF IN HER VOICE?]
Reply
Yup! But a few more hits might kill me.

It will not happen.
[Seriously what is wrong with all of you people. Zee thought she had issues.]

... a gross, disgusting and disturbing reality. If she could be ill right now? She would be.
Instead she's going to try and find certain people in the rag tag crowd of passengers now, praying that the people here she cares about are safe.]
