Slow evening to something tired.

I accept the risks inherent in NOT living in a Big Brother society. I accept this risk everytime i get on the tube and go to central london to work, shop or club. I will continue to accept this risk as a necessary part of living in a free society. I do not, and will not, support ID cards.

At the risk of sounding contrversial, barcode me up. I've got nothing to hide, and they'll never be able to prove that those sheep didn't consent.

As one comedian commented recently (I think it was probably Ian Hislop): if a terrorist is prepared to break the rule which says "don't blow things up", then it's a reasonably safe bet that they won't worry too much about the "always carry your correct ID papers" rule either.

I was pleased to hear it being said it the media that ID cards wouldn't have made any difference in this case. It's another example of how the money would be better spent on policing, intellegence and emergency services.

Personally I would be prepared to go to prison rather than carry 'papers'. If you listen to the constantly shifting arguments of the proponents of these things you know that every thing they stand for is just bullshit. They are a panacea, a sticking plaster to try and cover up the fact that there is no way to fight terrorism without tackling the causes of it, poverty, corruption, arms, imposed regimes(democratic or otherwise). In other words, all the things that make influential policy making capitalists rich!

It's another way they will control the populace, cos when you can't catch the real criminals, well ...

Best Wishes

Michelle
