Who knew?

I just got back the DNA results for the dogs and Cowboy's is so odd! He is 50% Russel Terrier, 25% English Springer Spaniel and 25% who knows what. This dog was guessed to be a Beagle/Basset Hound mix and I could easily believe it. He doesn't have a speck of either breed in him, not even in the "could be" possible breeds.

I can definitely see the Russell in Cowboy, although I don't know if I'd have spotted it without knowing it was there.

I can see the Jack Russell a bit too. It's just that he's so long and short. His body totally looks Basset. I guess I could see if you combined the length of a Springer with the short legs of a Russell. I have no idea where he got his coloring though!

I wonder if there's a bit of dachshund in there? Those legs and ears have a vague look about them.

That didn't come up either. Speck had possible Dachshund in his results, but that was going back more then 3 generations so they can't say for certain. If Cowboy has it the percentage is too small to show up.

Maybe Cowboy has dwarfism? i had a friend once who had a dog called Bear, he was a dwarf dog, this brothers and sisters were all hunterway (a New Zealand farm dog breed) and something else large, however Bear was not tall/large like the others he had short bowed legs, and the rest of him looked like his siblings.. it was odd, but having said that Bear was an awsome dog!!

Interesting. I did research the bowed legs when I first got him and mostly ended up on Basset sites. The biggest tip seems to be to keep him slim or they could cause him to develop arthritis.

They were a lot more expensive when they first came out and I was a lot poorer. I always figured what was the point, but now that I've done it I wish I had gone ahead with Devo. Oh, well. If I really HAVE to know I suppose I could send in a bone.

They're both pretty good little dogs too. Honestly, I might have passed on Cowboy if I knew he was half Russell because those dogs have a reputation for being crazy. He's not that much of a spaz though. I guess some of his whatever mix includes lazy breeds. ;)
