Never been much for New Years Resolutions but even I place some goals for myself from time to time. Lets take a look at my progress, shall we?
So, last year I made a few Sim Resolutions for myself offhandedly. Lets see how I faired:
1. Get an update of my legacy out every season
Epic fail :(
It's been a year since my last chapter
2. Rediscover the joys of Simming
Win!
While I completely neglected my Victorians, I found a new joy in creating and playing modern and post apoc neighborhoods. Since I started playing the Sims 2, it's been all historical. The only modern downloads I've ever had were for the meshes that might be recolored for my Victorian hoods. Never realized how much awesome stuff is out there: hair, clothing, furniture... I've had a field day building from modern floor plans without the burden of historical accuracy weighing down on me
3. Remember the writer in me
Accomplished :)
First using prompts from
sim_spiration and then participating in
Myshuno. I didn't make Blackout but I thoroughly enjoyed writing about my Legacy sims without the limitations of the game to curb me
4. Finish my Massive Rebuild of Guilford and Simdon
Semi Win?
Guilford is rebuilt and populated. Simdon is mostly finished since it needed to be rebuilt twice. Only I'm not positively pleased with it. Simdon likes to crash if I fill it up with too many buildings or decorations. I want it to look large and bustling and over populated but it doesn't want to cooperate
5. Buy a new computer specifically for gaming
Winning!
Yeah, I finally upgraded and I love the new graphics card. My shorelines are smooth and there are fish splashing in my ponds
6. Reorganize and cull my downloads folder
Yay Me!
I finally got around to using the hair binner to organize that distaster I had the nerve to call a hair folder. Also reevaluated what CC clothing I really needed for my historical hood. In the beginning I felt pickings were poor so I would snatch up anything, regardless if I even liked it. I need variety and choices. But as better clothing and objects were made, I never culled the redundant downloads I had. How many vintage phones does one need, really? I managed to lose like half of my downloads folder and speed up my game :) Downtown still crashes but se la vie
7. Learn how to recolor custom picture frames
*Toot toot*
This may not seem like a big deal for all the phenomenal CC creators out there but I've never so much as recolored a hair. I know only the very basics about Sim PE. Tutorials can be very over whelming for me and it's sometimes hard to find one that speaks to me in the language I need. Also, I require a certain frame of mind to delve into the unknown. But I finally did it and I couldn't be more thrilled to have my legacy family's pictures actually adorning their home. A special thanks to
dicreasy whose recoloring tutorial helped me and who was so very patient with all my noobee questions :)
8. Continue to boycott the Sims 3 with impunity
fail :(
So I played the Sims 3. NOT MY FAULT. My dad bought it for me for some bizarre reason (he buys me things to win my adoration despite the fact that I'm in my 30s and my instant graification isn't necessary to win my love). Out of curiosity I played it. I'll admit that the graphics are wonderful and I love the lack of loading screens. The open neighborhood makes it so easy to leave the house and do things with my sims. I like being able to recolor and redesign everything to my liking. And the floor plan tool is a great way to quickly add rooms to a house. Oh what I wouldn't give to have a body shape slider in Sims 2. And yet, it still lacks something. I like the freedom of switching houses and knowing my sims aren't off doing anything without my permission. I need that total control. I have my Sims 2 game modded to within an inch of it's life to suit my specific playing needs and it's perfect. For me. Sims 3 is fun to putz around with and focus on one family without having to worry about what the rest of the town is doing. And I will begrudgingly admit that traits are way cooler than I ever imagined
So, not bad for last year. What do I have in mind for 2013?
1. Get a damn update out for my legacy by Spring, yeesh!
yeah, so I'd better get my ass in gear
2. Continue my Sims Kingdom project
Not quite medieval but more a fantasy hood much like the movie "Stardust"
3. Finish my modern neighborhood for the set of "Phoenix Rises"
a hood based on my favorite New Zealand tv show "The Tribe". I no longer write fanfiction for it but I've found the sims a great outlet for the stories I still have in my head for the characters
4. Remember why I love Victorian England
There's a reason I started a historical legacy and I want it to be fun again, not some overwhelming burden. I'm so tired of fixing my game, rather than playing it. If that means my legacy story suffers a bit, than so be it
5. Try out those two Sims 3 expansion packs both my Dad and husband bought me
Not enthusiastically, mind you. But it's only polite since they were gifts. I've heard 'Ambitions' is supposed to be pretty fun
6. Get Blackout in Myshuno
I can do it if I don't procrastinate so much :)
So yeah, I'll leave it there. Here's hoping I succeed in the legacy update at the very least *eye roll*
