Title: One Small Sign
Theme: Roses
Number: 4/100
Pairing: Shindong-Centric; Shindong/Girlfriend
Rating: G
Word Count: 724
Shindong wasn’t the good-looking member, the member who girls fainted over and yelled proposals at during their concerts or comeback stages or the cutest member, the one who everyone fawned over and was incessantly requested for their aegyo. In general, Shindong wasn’t the member that most girls thought of romantically. He was their beloved Shindong-oppa, their brother or friend, not someone they would want to spend the rest of their lives with. Sure he could dance and he had a nice face, but he couldn’t compete with the other members in those areas.
He didn’t mind it a lot that people were usually drawn to him because of his good sense of humor and happy disposition. But Shindong couldn’t help but want more, want people to be drawn to him because he was also charismatic or someone who was their ideal type.
But things like that hardly ever change.
Ding dong
Shindong typed away more on his keyboard.
Ding dong
“Door!” Shindong yelled.
Ding dong
“Door!” He yelled louder.
Dingdongdingdongdingdong
The dancer let out a sigh and closed his laptop. Getting up from the comfortable position that he was in, Shindong dragged his feet to the door. He passed by Heechul who lay on his side flipping through a magazine and Dong Hae who had his eyes glued to the screen.
“Don’t move guys,” Shindong said, sarcasm dripping from his words. “I’ll get it.”
The two paid no attention.
Shindong wrapped his hand around the doorknob and twisted it open.
“Presents!” Shindong had to take a step back as a mountain of brightly wrapped gifts was shoved in his face. Eunhyuk’s face poked out from the side and gave the fellow dancer a smile.
Dong Hae immediately ran up from his spot on the floor. He grabbed an armful of assorted boxes and decorated bags and ran back to the living room. Shindong closed the door behind Eunhyuk as he followed the youngest into their dorm.
Dong Hae was already shifting through the presents mumbling the names written on each package. He grinned as he came across one with his name on it.
Heechul also abandoned his magazine to look through the pile of gifts. “Meh, Leeteuk’s,” he said in mild distaste as he chucked the gift behind him. Eunhyuk caught it after it bounced off of his head and carefully placed it on the couch along with the rest of Leeteuk’s gifts.
Dong Hae gasped as he held a stuffed animal in his hands. “Look!” He turned the toy to show the others. It was a fish, colored sapphire blue, with a silly grin and dressed in an alien t-shirt. “It’s me!” The boy quickly cuddled it to his chest.
Shindong smiled and began to look through the pile as well. He passed whatever gifts weren’t his to Eunhyuk who put them into their respective piles. His smile soon faded as he sorted through all the presents and only found coupons for restaurants and small toys with his face drawn on them. He was thankful for the gifts, but it wasn’t what he was looking for.
Quietly, Shindong got up from his spot and dusted off his pants.
“Where are you going hyung?” Eunhyuk asked as he played with Dong Hae’s new presents.
“Fresh air,” Shindong called over his shoulder as. He let the door slam behind him as he left the dorm and trekked down the stairs. The cool air was thrown into Shindong’s face as soon as he pulled the front door open. He took a step forward but froze when he felt something underneath his foot. The dancer took a step back and stared at the object that lay on the ground. A rose, blood red and vibrant, rested at his feet, a white card attached to its stem.
“Tch, probably for Siwon.” Shindong reached down and wrapped his fingers around the flower and brought it to his cross face. His other hand flipped open the card to double check if he was right or not. He blinked in surprise.
‘Shindong
Saranghae
Nari’
Shindong stood in his place, completely taken by surprise. He was wrong. Slowly, he felt a grin splay across his entire face, images of a young girl with big eyes and chocolate bangs playing in his mind from when he was younger. Maybe some things had changed.

A/N: Not my best, but what I could think of with this challenge. And his girlfriend is beyond cute. I hope they’ll be happy together. I just hope that's her name, or I'll feel stupid.
I know I know, I’ve been gone a while, I’ve had a lot of school work to deal with since everything’s at the end of the year. I mean really, four regents and the SAT? Why do they do this to us? But please take this as a sign that I am back and I am working on more fanfics, mostly the ones from the challenge, so please bear with me. Thank you all for reading!
