Leeteuk/Shindong
Pg ; ~900
If Shindong hadn't been accepted into Boom Academy, he would have never had the same relationship with Leeteuk. Shindong had always been close with Eunhyuk because they were both dancers of the group and had trained together more often, but Leeteuk had always confused him, intimidated him at times. Their leader's mood was constantly unpredictable, his words sometimes contradictory, but his authority always absolute.
Being in the same group obviously allowed for them to become familiar each other, but it was in those extra hours a week that Shindong and Leeteuk spent together that Shindong was able to piece together the real Park Jungsu. He would spend hours a week with Leeteuk preparing skits for when they would appear on Star King, seeing how the older man would always try his hardest to come up with jokes or gags, but would almost immediately get turned down. He would see the constant phone calls Leeteuk would receive, their manager or the company reminding Leeteuk of not only his but every member's events, and the eldest making sure that they were all attended. He would see the bags that would stubbornly refuse to remain hidden under the layers of make-up Leeteuk would apply and the permanent slump of Leeteuk's back that only seemed to get worse and worse. Shindong would see how Leeteuk would do his best as his role as leader, but could barely keep himself together.
That's why when everyone was bustling about, tucking that strand of hair into place and straightening out their outfits, Shindong was the one who noticed the absence of a figure who was supposed to be fluttering from member to member to do all of those last minute touch-ups himself. He checked the clock that hung crooked on the wall and slipped out of the room, muttering a 'bathroom' over his shoulder when he heard someone asking him where he was going. Shindong passed by a few hoobaes in the hallway, each one recognizing him from a far and greeting him with the customary ninety degree bows. He remembered when he was in their position and everything about becoming an idol, from memorizing lyrics, choreography, and scripts to learning to deal with dedicated fans, was overwhelming. Now, being an idol was overwhelming for different reasons, like competing with newer, younger groups and adjusting to coming and going of members.
The cool, October air brushed past Shindong as he opened the door to the balcony of the usually deserted wing of the studio building. He took slow, even steps until he reached the railing and turned around to lean his back against the cool metal. Shindong looked down and saw his shoe had a scuff on the toe. He voiced his disappointment aloud and the person next to him chuckled, his dimple nestling into the side of his face.
"You should know better than to go outside with those shoes on," Leeteuk lightly scolded. He would never be able to let go of the habit.
Shindong just let out an exaggerated sigh and watched as his breath appeared as a white cloud and then disappeared up into the atmosphere.
Leeteuk shook his head as he opened a pack of cigarettes and took one out. He held the stick in between his lips and quickly brought his lighter to the butt and lit it. Shindong watched as the older man took in a deep, shaky breath and then exhaled as if all of his troubles were trapped in the trails of smoke and dissipated out from his lips. The younger man could feel the nicotine fill his own chest as he watched Leeteuk take another drag.
"Should you-" really be doing that?, Shindong wanted to say before he remembered. Should you really be doing that? Smoking will ruin your voice. But as Shindong continued to stare at his leader, he remembered that Leeteuk wouldn't be using his voice anymore, at least he wouldn't be using it to sing. Not for two years.
Leeteuk didn't look at Shindong when he failed to finish his sentence, but by the sad, wry way his lips were curled up at the corners he already knew what the other was going to say. He always knew what Shindong was going to say. They stayed out on the balcony for only a couple minutes more until Leeteuk threw what was left of his cigarette down onto the floor and crushed it with the toe of his shoe. He stood up straight, smoothed out his shirt and pants, and cleared his throat of the smoke that lingered.
But, just before Shindong took his first step forward, Leeteuk reached over and wrapped his hand around the younger man's. Shindong looked at Leeteuk as the elder squeezed his hand and smiled, his way of saying 'thank you' because Leeteuk's voice had the tendency to falter whenever he tried to put his thanks into words. Shindong returned the gesture, firm and reassuring, and they released each other's hand and walked back into the building.
If Shindong didn't have the same kind of relationship that he had with Super Junior's leader, he wouldn't be holding in his tears as he walked right by Leeteuk's side on their way to their dressing room, and later when he and the other members would send Leeteuk off, because Leeteuk knew that he deserved to be weak sometimes and that Shindong would always be there to be his strength.

A/N: Leader is my favorite and I will be tearing as I write each member's. Wait for more to come, though I doubt they will be any good ;A; This is my way of coping and they are a hot mess, just like me. Thank you for reading~
