Voting progress as of 5 PM...

I just heard on the news that the MI secretary of state reported that as of 5 PM, 60% of MI's registerred voters have cast their ballots. 60% already! And we have a few more hours to go. The normal turnout is like 40-something percent. In my county they are expecting close to 75% turnout. How awesome does that make you feel? It's awesome to see ( Read more... )

Poor Kimmie. First watching your movie theatre crumble to bits, then watching Kerry lose. Oh wait -- is the movie theatre demolition Bush's fault? That's 10 jobs lost!!

Kidding aside - I look forward to the pics on your website. Abandoned buildings have always fascinated me, in a twisted sort of way.

Well, I've never actually been inside either of the Pontiacs but I love the history of theaters/drive-ins/one-screers/deco houses and other old buildings. It's hard to find when these theaters were built and torn down because few papers write about them. Many of the decor inside you could NEVER replicate due to money nowadays. While the Showcases are sterile multiplexes that I really shouldn't give a crap about, they represented a time where they held a monopoly on the theater business in Metro Detroit, revolutionizing the way movies were exhibited. Pontiac 1-5 was one of the first "multiplexes" in the area. Showcase Dearborn is the oldest building, dating back to the 1940s (and it's still open but not as beautiful as it once was ( ... )
