[Her brief stint as an amateur psychologist wasn't a complete waste, Bellis was able to learn a few things. She knows she has to ask questions if she expects to find a way out of Luceti, but it's difficult to know which questions to ask. A clue to come from anywhere. She doesn't particularly enjoy addressing the entire town, but she sees the ( Read more... )

"Xenians" - interesting word. I've not heard it before.

Many I know are somewhat reluctant to share cultural details with outsiders.

It comes from the language Ragamoll. It seems it doesn't translate as easily as other words. Perhaps it lacks an equivalent in many languages?

Many in my world are the same way, but I see no harm in asking.

That's possible. There are a few words I've used here that the Universal Translator seems to have trouble with, though all are pretty much untranslatable, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I don't know the language "Ragamoll", but "xenian" sounds Greek to me - literally.

No harm in asking, no, but answers may not be readily forthcoming. What I know about xenoculture from my world, well, I could tell you some of it, but a lot of it is... privileged information.

You work for a government in your home world?

I understand, tell me what you can.

Why are you asking?

Curiosity. My world is full of different races and cultures, but I have never had the opportunity to meet ones from other worlds. Luceti may be a prison, but it also allows for unique experiences.

... Are you familiar with the term "Youkai"?

I have never heard it.

You know, that isn't exactly a short answer. Have you also considered going to the library to learn more about other worlds?

But well, if you want the long answer, there's about six types in my world, including the ones that would be the closest to what most worlds term as human. If you want information, I'll tell what I know, but some of it is very minimal since some of those races are very secretive due to past persecution.

Only six? How odd, but I would like to learn more about them.

I have tried the library, and I was able to find a few books, but so many of the books assume I have a knowledge of the world they come from.

It would take a lot more understanding of my world to know the reasons for that. But yes, this is going to be a long response ( ... )

[Most of it wasn't terribly useful, but it was fascinating nonetheless]

From your descriptions, they sound nothing like the Xenians of my world. Or perhaps they do, there are still many unexplored lands in Bas-Lag. Why were the espers persecuted? And the androids sound like sentient constructs. I have heard theories and rumors, but I did not know such a thing was possible.

[If this is a voice post, she'll be glaring at him.]

If you're referring to the term "Xenian" I defined it in my request. If not, I'm afraid I'm not sure how to simplify my wording any more.

Yes. Jibberish.

Xenians? Is that a term in your world?

Yes, it's from the language Ragamoll. It refers to non-human intelligent races.

I don't think I count as one of those, then. I used to be a normal reindeer before this.

[She isn't particularly surprised by his appearance. She's already seen several strange races here.]

You were a normal reindeer? How did you change?
