Christmas Decorating!

I've been a busy little elf!  Pictures galore behind the cut.

I was fairly inspired this year, so I did some new things.  I'm really happy with how they turned out!

Mantle:

I had all the frames already, just laying around.  Convenient they're all the same wood tone, no?  I went to Jo Ann's and bought a couple giant sheets of paper from the painting supplies for $0.97 each, plus two bottles of ruby red glitter glue for $1.79.  Voila!  The tiny plate on the mantle is one of my favorite decorations; Brian got me that our first Christmas together in (gulp) 1996.  Oh, I also put the snowflake on the pots the Christmas tree candles and fake tree are in.  Those were $1.00 for a big bag with with blue and turquoise snowflakes as well, which Jack happily stole.

Other side of the mantle:

More of the cheap snowflakes!  That vintage Santa ad with the shoes I bought a few years ago on Ebay.

Credenza!  The silver penguin serving dish is another one of my favorites.  I bought it for myself quite a few years ago, and I still just love it.  The ornaments he's holding are all vintage ones that belonged to my Grandparents, who were also the original owners of the credenza, so it seems apros pros.

China cabinet that matches the credenza.  This was also my grandparents, and makes me feel very grown up.  More of their old ornaments dangling on the martini glasses in there.

On the top is this musical bunny I got from my great Aunt when I was just a kid.  It plays "Oh Christmas Tree" while it rotates.  It's definitely another one of my favorite things.

Our dining room table.  I love the big red ornaments!  This picture makes me realize I really need some kind of valance over my window, but the rest is good.

This was my other creation.  The big red star was from my MIL, who bought it but her husband hated it, so it sat next to her deck since early summer.  I saved it over Thanksgiving with the plan to hang it over the couch.  I got it up there, and it kind of overwhelmed the whole design, but then I got the idea to do the banner over it, and somehow that softened the effect of the star.  Funny how adding more to a focal point reduced it's prominence.

The Christmas tree.  It's a beautiful tree, and was only $20 to boot.  The joy of buying your tree in BFE from an aging hippy treehugger, I guess!  I had lots of boughs leftover that I'm using for garland on the banisters, but that's not quite done yet, so those will have to be in another post.

And, of course, the outside is decorated too.  I take no credit for the artistic snow, but thanks, Mother Nature!

Bonus Jack cuteness!

Finally, one more shot of the mantle, with the candles lit.

I hope everyone is having fun decorating!  I'll try and be organized and post some pictures of the banister, but in case I don't, Merry Christmas!

home sweet home, holidays, santa is my homeboy
