Friends in imaginary places

Two separate people have pointed out to me this week how odd it is that you can meet people online and, over time, they can become your genuine friends, even if you've never met them in real life. It seems strange to me that, by reading people's livejournal posts, I have an almost day-by-day update on people I've never seen. I find myself

I have a presentation on Wednesday and a paper due Thursday. Tonight I need to write a journal entry about teaching last week (which happens to be what the presentation is about).

I've been having the damnedest time getting anything done tonight.
