Does anyone know the reference behind someone dropping the microphone after using it? Or, in the case of drumming, dropping the drum sticks? It's a sign of aggression or dominance, or perhaps it's used as a visual way of saying "I rest my case."

This has been a hard thing to Google.

Thanks! Is it kind of like smashing a guitar? I can't imagine that'd be good for the mic.

It's not good for it, but the mic should still work unless you get unlucky.
