Spooks 7x05

Usually Spooks deals with subjects that I don’t know much about - cyber attacks, bombings, terrorists...  But this episode is different, because this is in my world!  This time I know pretty much exactly what is going on.  Which means that I really liked this episode!

Firstly I think that having this episode focus on the some of the fall-out ( Read more... )

Thank you! At last I understand clearly what was going on. I'd sort of worked it out, but have to confess that RA in a suit (or anything, really) is a major distraction...
My, Meynell certainly looked strange - I've seen the actor before and don't remember thinking that he was particularly odd, so maybe he just isn't ageing well!

At last I understand clearly what was going on. Well I'm very glad I could help! It's not often that my profession collides with my fandom. It's rather exciting!

RA in a suit is a major distraction. Yeah - I completely agree. There was a scene on the grid which I had to go and rewatch several times and still I got distracted every single time!

Heh. "WHERE ARE AAAAAAAAAAAAAALL YOUR BALLS?"

I actually have a friend who's studying forensic accounting! He might be the next Ros Myers, if he's lucky. He flipped out while watching this episode, heh.

Somewhere amongst all of this the Chancellor and Harry are talking about collapses and bankruptcy but all I’m seeing is Lucas’ eyes.

Story of my life. The man is gorgeous.

He flipped out while watching this episode. Oh sounds like my reaction! I loved it.

Story of my life. The man is gorgeous. I don't understand exactly why by RA distracts me to no end. Way too gorgeous.

I should've guessed that when you called out Lucas' startlingly red tie as very 'finance', that you were literally speaking from experience ( ... )

Yeah, I've known a couple of well dressed guys in my time. None that looked quite as good as RA though!

The show gets 5 stars for their scary economic predictions. I think it's the first show I've seen to focus on financial crisis. And I think they handled it very well.

I agree that Meynell had a bit of crush on Ros. I guess I didn't really focus on it, but then again, I just couldn't really like Meynell. I may have spent some of Meynell's back story wondering why I thought his face was different. And yes, Ros was played very well.

Harry actually looked really uncomfortable. He did look sorry for having to ask Lucas to remember his torture. Although I can understand why he had to ask. The first tim we sense how dangerous it could be to get on the wrong side of Lucas North. Lucas seems to hide his anger very well. Behind the smirk-smile as you call it. It's all kind of simmering beneath the surface. It's making me look forward to the next series!

You can watch said scene again! I've actually been making a HD recording ( ... )

Yeah, I've known a couple of well dressed guys in my time. None that looked quite as good as RA though Really the story of our lives, this. I'll be in the corner, sobbing into my chocolate.

Meynell's crush on Ros was kinda creepy, and that might have quite a lot to do with his face, I agree. Looks aside, he's a well-built character; could've been an antihero if we squinted sideways and the script was written from his POV. One of the best lines in the show, mentioned in your review: Capitalism will be revealed as a busted flush and the debt fuelled consumer nightmare it’s created will finally... finally come crashing down. Something about the words, makes his cause sound almost noble ( ... )

I'll be in the corner, sobbing into my chocolate. Don't feel down! I don't know about you, but if there were too many guys around me who looked like RA, I'm not sure I could function properly! And I quite like being coherent, as opposed to the flailing mess I would be...

Something about the words, makes his cause sound almost noble. It's another case of doing the right thing in the wrong way, I suppose. He wants there to be more equality, but I think his method would make everything much worse before it eventually leveling out.

I haven't really been reading much Lucas/Spooks fanfic. I think I'll wait until the series is over and then go searching for some good ones. Embittered, cynical, angry and hurt, all in one twitch of the lips. It is wonderful. He really is a survivor and... I'm having trouble expressing myself at the moment! I keep starting sentences in my head and they all end with hugging Lucas. *sigh*

RA's features are so much more interesting. It's not (in my opinion) the traditional attractive features, but it ( ... )

He has cost her everything. He really has cost her everything. Her whole world was tipped on its head when he disappeared and now he's reappeared and it's everything's been tipped on its head again!

He needs to let her go. I do wish I could see Elizabeta and Lucas happy together but at the same time I realise that it can never happen. As you said, he can't undo the past and as much as I think he wishes he could, I think he's realising that he can't. And he does. I suppose we'll see this in the next couple of episodes (unless it was cut out of the international version).

Why anyone would cut a Lucas scene, I can't imagine. I can't imagine it either! But don't worry, I'm no more spoiled than I was before. I've seen a couple of music vids, one with Lucas tearing a photo in two, so I pretty much guessed that he'd have to let go anyway. It's not like there was much other choice.

You might also have missed a sad scene - yes, that comment was made last week and I was not impressed. I'm less annoyed now though because I have the DVDs to fall back on. I might do a big rewatch of the full episodes in a few months.

Ha, I'm another one for whom the suit does nothing... I'm baffled why it seems to do so much for most everyone else, to be honest! And how exciting that it was set in your profession, as it were. Are you keeping a lookout for secret Marxists hidden behind decades of faux capitalism? :D

I'm baffled why it seems to do so much for most everyone else. Well, this may only serve to baffle you further but I can't really explain why I really like it. I just do. It's grasping at straws but it could just be me liking men in suits. And that probably goes back to my formative years watching Austen films.

I can't say I'm looking out for secret Marxists, but I am on the lookout for companies hiding their debts and losses! Highland Life beware...
