What do you want to do with your life?

Jan 20, 2010 20:31

Seriously, I am asking this question for real: if you could do anything, what would you want to do?

Forget making money, forget practicality, forget what you're trained to do or skilled at, or even the laws of physics -- what do you actually want to do? I honestly would like to know ( Read more... )

In an ideal world- rescue kitties, own a vintage store that somehow magically supplies itself with clothes, run a karaoke night... I feel like there are more, but at this point my life is so far removed from what I want that I don't let myself think about it.

Oh, I remembered two! Working with big cats at a zoo and being the star of a travel show similar to Anthony Bordain's.

Be a member of ALF. If I could get the 3 months off of work and get Toto taken care of, I would have already volunteered for Sea Shepard (this was pre Whale Wars btw).

OR be akin to Paris Hilton jet setting around the world doing blow and drinking champagne each and every night.

I could go either way ;)

Printmaking and making books.

Awesome? or ill...

I'm on disability for the lyme and chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia and my boyfriend is basically supporting me.
What little energy I have I expend on my art. I've found a lovely community of book artists, printmakers, and letterpress printers to keep me sane and living this dream. And of course the generosity of my patron!

It would be great if I weren't sick. But then I'd also be working not printing.
Of course this week the weather sucks, so printing is also too much to bear.

I guess they say anguish feeds the creative fire anyway right?

I would be a costume designer for avant garde performance, photograph my own work, do installation pieces with civil rights/feminist/economic war/hunger/nature protecting themes, write novels about ridiculous stuff, and be a sad clown for hire.

You could pretty much do those things now, it's just the time commitment of dollar-gathering employment that gets in the way. :)

Yeah it's all about time and funding.
Also I forgot the band I would be in. (Not a metal band. I don't think that's going to work out.)

I love all of that, especially the clown part.

Well, yes, there is that.

But, wouldn't we get bored after a while? Maybe?

I had a few months of that this summer before school started. At first it was glorious, but it got depressing.

Didn't you ask this question before and didn't we all decide to be independently wealthy artists?

I don't want to be an artist.

I actually don't know what I would do if I could do anything.

What I would do tomorrow if I didn't have to show up at school is stay in bed.

Hmm, did I ask this question before? Oh noes -- this definitely means I am getting old. :)

I hear you on the staying in bed tomorrow...or maybe for like a week.

Yes but you could be the *friend* of all us independently wealthy artists. That would be a jorb by itself. And you could be a mad scientist! Create the next bpal or something.
