Large field trip budget needed

Feb 28, 2010 21:31

I found this sentence in one of our teacher's guides:

Explain to students, "You will meet with other experts on that planet or moon to discuss the conditions there."

Not saying which brilliant curriculum developer wrote that and didn't notice that it sounds like the kids will be sent to Mars for a meeting. Nope, not saying.

curriculum development, wtf

Perhaps this is a misguided plea for more funding to NASA? :)

Unless the budget includes a catapult for transport?

Catapaulting small kids to the moon... I approve of this curriculum.

That's really the only way they can get the concrete, hands-on experience that will allow them to understand our solar system.

On the plus side, most parents don't look at permission slips closely enough to notice that you are taking their children to outer space for the day. So the majority of kids would be able to go.

This is true. Also, a good quarter of the class would forget the permission slips entirely, even after five emails, mention in the weekly newsletter, an announcement on the school website, and three copies of the permission slip, the last of which was pinned to the outside of their backpacks.

NO FAIR, there weren't field trips to the moon or other planets when I was a kid. Kids these days don't know how good they have it.

Yeah, we just made papier mache models of planets...

I think we had a flashlight and an orange. OH and we made planet models by putting colored modeling clay around the outside of styrofoam balls.

We didn't have enough budget for modelling clay. Old newspaper and glue was the best we could do. And we walked up hill to school both ways (no snow. This was Australia, remember?) :)
