Reading goals

Jan 23, 2007 15:32

This year I know some of my friends are going to try to read 50 books. Last year firebyrd challenged herself to read 100 books (not 200 like I thought) and attained that goal with months to spare. She then tried to think of a new challenge for herself this year, but realized she'd already met all the ones she could think of so decided she didn't need one ( Read more... )

Alas, I must admit my goal was only 100 books and I hit 125, not the 200+ you attribute to me.

And I don't think I'm going to join you. All other things aside (like presumably needing brain power for at least some of these books, which I don't think I'm going to have until Enoch is sleeping through the night), The Mists of Avalon is on that list, which I have previously tried to read and ended up hating halfway through and stopped wasting my time on it. ;) Admittedly the incest and stuff probably wouldn't bother me as much as it did in my teens, but it left such a sour taste, I have no inclination to give it another shot. MZB is either a big hit or a big miss with me, it seems.

It was? Ah, okay. I shall fix the post.

Yeah, MoA puts me to pause too. But I think I can find an audio version of the book or maybe and abridged version...

If you haven't already read the rest of the series surrounding The Black Cauldron, I recommend them. The High King is my favorite of any book. And if you have read them, they're worth reading again! They're short.

I have read the series. I may again someday, but probably not in the near future. :)

The Belgariad is actually a very fast read. At least it was for me.

Are you going to save The Mallorean, it's sequel-ish series after, until next year?

I think Mike has it on audio. He was amused by the way the guy did the accents and I poo pooed the series because I don't like how Eddings writes women. And the reason I know that is because I read The Mallorean in junior high. :D

Hmm. I actually liked the way he wrote Polgara, but apples n' oranges. Wee. Late for work here we go.

If you make it through the Dark Tower series let me know how it ends. I greatly enjoyed all the books up until the end of the 5th one. I just could not go on after that. I was enjoying them so much I bought all of them, but after I finished the 5th I just couldn't muster the enthusiasm to continue.

Okay. :) What made you lose your enthusiasm anyway?

Well, I've never been a fan of the horror genre, in books or films. I do love fantasy and science fiction though. The Dark Tower books were very sci-fi/fantasy based in the begining, but by the end of book five Stephen King's claim to fame became quite apparent. Simple put the story became horrible, I completely lost interest. Which is a shame because it had an interesting story and I was curious to see how it turned out.

Ahhh Yes, there is a reason for his reputation. I'll have to see how well I take to it.
