It is Fat Tuesday and that means Ash Wednesday and Lent loom. I'm sure we're all at least familiar with the idea of giving something up for Lent, so here's my question.

What are you giving up this year? [Not giving something up this year? Make something up!]

You know my feelings on the subject (at least somewhat), so my answer is nothing. :) I am only allowing myself a soda on the weekends, and I rarely even do that, so if I need an answer I will say that! :p

yeah. And I think the soda is a fine answer. :-D

We take Lent very lightly because we're basically all Lutheran over here. :)

But we have semlor, too. And they are very yummy! Not too sweet, so you can eat several. :D

It wouldn't be a bad idea to give something up, though. How about procrastinating, stressing, and emotional eating? Not a bad list, there. Maybe I'll start with just one. :)

I'm Episcopal if I have to give it a title and Lent is light for us as well. As I was saying to turloughishere, it's always been more about giving up a bad habit than anything religious. The timing is good because you get encouragement and when asked 'What did you give up for Lent?' I always had an answer!

Hey, I'll give up the horribly habit of emotional eating if you do. We can commiserate together on it. ;-)

I'm fairly sure I've said this multiple times, but, I love that icon.

I didn't think you were being strictly religious - I just meant that since Finland is mostly a Lutheran country, the whole idea of giving something up for Lent barely exists in the culture.

That said, giving up emotional eating is not going too well so far. But I'll keep trying. :)

And thank you. :)

fried food! Good one! As well as the vodka. :-)

Have I ever mentioned that each time you post with that icon I hear C. Thomas Howell reciting it?

I've never practiced Lent.
I did swear one year, after some boy frustration, that I was giving up men for lent. That didn't work out so well. lol

I am rather disappointed that Austin doesn't have a Polish population and there is no place I can get a pączki.

ahahah! One year my 'New Year's Resolution' was to become a lesbian, for much the same reason. ;-) It didn't work out for me either.

I should have put in my post that I don't really associate my giving up something with Lent so much as time it the same. Giving up a bad habit, or instituting a good one are always a good idea, Lent is just an easy time to do it.

Paczki! Mmmm. You can't even find them in the in store bakery of a larger grocery? That's where I find them here and there's no real Polish population here anymore.

I don't think so. HEB is very locally oriented (they only sell 3 flavors of juicy juice and it pisses me off!) and I don't know that there's ever been Polish people around here. I suppose I could look, I need to get ziplocks as it is.

Soda. Because I drink entirely too much of it.

Good for you. There are loads of other things that are so much better, taste and nutritional value wise. :-D
