Busted laptop

I've just been bitten by a design flaw in the HP Pavilion laptop series. The power connector is a rigid Radio Shack style plug which sticks out from the side of the case. I remember thinking, when I bought it, that, gee, any kind of lateral force would bend the connector and render the whole power supply useless ( Read more... )

I pretty much expected this comment, hence the last sentence of my post. :) The power supply connector is one of many things Apple got very right on the Macbook.

If I were in the market for a new laptop, I'd probably consider a MacBook Pro, because it's such great hardware. I could wipe the drive and put on Vista, and have a kick-ass laptop. The fact is, though, that $50 for a new HP power adapter is more in-line with my budget than a new $1100 laptop.
