What the heck does it mean to "stay the course"?

As President Bush returns home from the middle east, the national news media, rabid and senile watchdogs that they are, have again latched onto the question of when the U.S. military will pull out of Iraq.  One side insists that we must produce a "timetable" with deadlines for pulling out.  The other side insists we must "stay the course".  As ( Read more... )

Heh, the "stay the course" thing is always funny to me. How many times has Bush actually said those words? I believe it's less than 4 times over the last 4 years, yet they're trotted out everytime someone wants to discredit his strategy on the war.

Some people have worked it up until there is only two choices, do what we have been, or leave completely.

I haven't heard a conservative commentator in a long time suggest that there are only two choices. They keep saying that "staying the course" as the democrats like to call it, is adapting until we find a solution to the problem that doesn't involve leaving Iraq to be pounced on by Turkey, Syria, and Iran.
