the_raif brought over his Nintendo Wii and plopped it down next to my other consoles. I now understand where the Wii fits in, technologically. A few notable things:
1. People are getting together socially to play this console. It's that much fun.
2. People are getting together to play with the CONSOLE, not any specific game.
3. I have heard the above statement ONCE about a PS3, and zero times about an XBox 360.
It is possible that people aren't getting together on these other boxen because they're busy playing online against each other, but the fact remains that people want to just get together and "play the Wii".
The other thing I'm hearing a lot is: "Man, my shoulder is really sore today." :-)

That's pretty much the only reason I would consider ever getting the Wii: The interactivity, especially with the online networking aspect and its instant popularity. (Well, that, and possibly if Super Smash Brothers Brawl happens to have Ganondorf as a playable character in it.) ;) I didn't really want to bother jumping on the Wii bandwagon for some time, until half of the gamers on my Friends list were all, "OMG I just got a Wii! Here's my code so you can friend me, etc., etc., etc." XD
And Pi, thanks so much for your take on it. I was wondering if it was more hype than actual substance, especially given that they've spent a few years developing this console. =P
