I love how it always ends in moving away to an island. All any of us ever wants is to escape ninety percent of reality and take a handful of people with us. It funny to because over the years the handful always changes. I liked this entry because it's what I love about the whole live journal concept. Writing for yourself or strangers or to no one at all.

It's a shame the handful changes, too, because I can't count how many wonderful people I've known in my life that I don't talk to nearly enough anymore. That's the way of the world, though, and there will always be new fantastic people, or at least, you have to believe there will be, or you stop seeing the point in it all. Maybe that's my problem, maybe that's why I want to move away to an island. Come with me if I do.

I think as we get older we all fell like we connect to less and less people and the ones we did are either different or just gone. It's such a sad way to look at the world, but I suppose that's one of the biggest things we as people have to deal with. We all make these huge emotional connections and then they just disappear and we never fully learn to cope with the loss.

I would be honored to be on your island. I hate that when you meet people via internet it's damn near impossible to ever really meet them. It's such a tease to know that people you would love to get to know DO exist, but your kept in one way or another from doing so.

I definitely feel you on that last bit - that's why this summer I've been talking a lot about getting some cash together and going across country, attempting to meet as many of you people as I can. lostcosmonaut made a list of 110 of his LiveJournal friends he's met, and I'd like to be able to do something similar, at least create a similar ratio of friends:friends met.

did you see the drummer's hair musicunderwater February 22 2006, 23:15:06 UTC
Before I grew my hair out a few years ago I had kind of a mental clock on when to get my hair cut. After I grew it out the first time, I'd grow so attached to it I didn't want to cut it, and I didn't for like a year at a time. Either that or I didn't want to hear 100 people ask me "Why'd you get your hair cut?" I'm only getting used to a scheduled hair cut now.

Also, I always want to start up another band after I see a really good live show.

Yeah, I went through the same thing with the hair, about the internal clock and then suddenly growing it out for over 18 months. I've been gradually getting it cut with less and less time in between barber appointments, but I think I might go a few months until I go back.

I should send you mine, as that is clearly a much better use of my digital camera than I'd ever put it to.

re: Island problems mistercreepy February 23 2006, 02:37:08 UTC
the problem with the perfect island isn't so much your shifting tastes as the island continually expanding to include the whole world

Let's say I start off with just Megan and me on the island. Maybe that would work. But let's say I want my bff, Colin as well. Ok 3, not bad. But Colin's gonna ant his gf, and now Megan and his gf are going to want their BFFs. That's 3 more (Megan has 2). Ok now Colin's gf's, Kaila, BFF, Matt, is going to want a coke dealer. And most of NYC.

Now it's just the whole world again.

Please give Blind Guardian kid one for me.

Let’s start a metal band, but never write any songs, and play concerts more concerned about our volume than our songcraft, and when one of us moves away, when we inevitably part ways, we’ll look at our fans and smile and say, “Thanks for the memories.”

I need to stop smoking weed with friends and talking about starting our own sludge band and begin smoking weed with friends and actually start said sludge band (Mung Dynasty's the name).

That is a pretty good name. I wanna start a grindcore band, though. Seems like less pressure.
