In your own words, and seriously (like, nothing about Germans and cathedrals), define "Goth".
(don't ask, it's an ongoing argument, and I'm curious how completely out of it I am...)

BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
three are multiple definitions! Not just one!

I think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth
says it best
In recent years, the word Goth has often been used to describe a wider social group of youths. These might include people with a tendency to wear black clothes, listen to nu-metal or wear goth-style make up. Often, those labelled as Goths lack many of the characteristics historically associated with the subculture. In these circumstances, the term can often (but not always) be used in a derogatory manner.

A Goth is someone who refers to themselves as one. Yes, I'm being serious, and I think the description carries over to pretty much all labels (prep, punk, skater, nerd, etc.) because they're really so porous that it's mostly about what the person is going for.

Or you can take the old pornography route: "I don't know what it is, but I can tell you when I see it."

Well, I know your opinion on it, as well as urban dictionaries. But I'm looking for the popular opinion from non goths.

Doesn't #1 describe almost any non-conformist group? Especially the late beatnik movement?

and thus did mass opinion crush the minorities....
and by mass I mean two people.
Honestly, we HAVE no access to popluar opinon, a survey we took would not reflect it.

'Goths', 'punks', etc. in a certain sense are the same. They are people who sacrifice a certain degree of individuality in terms of appearance and musical taste in the name of conformity.

Goths are effectively emo kids who listen to industrial music.

...no, that's a lame argument. It's like the kind my brother uses. "Jasmine, you're stupid so there!" Actually, that's the kind of argument I use too...
