You need to sign up for the group. You can add the group to your friends but thats different from subscribing to the group.

i signd up to the group, and i can post in other peoples topics but i carnt seem to start my own topic, is that normal?

Yeah becuase you need to subscribe to the group and be approved. Send a message to the group and ask that person how to successfully sign up. You also might just be awaiting approval.
