Although this poll was conducted in London, I suspect these attitudes of blaming the victim are about the same here in the US.  How long until our world understands that No means NO and a woman ALWAYS has the right to change her mind?

I've been shocked to find that even a few of my friends have said "well, if she just hadn't . . . it wouldn't have happened" Nope! If THEY hadn't CHOSEN to RAPE it wouldn't have happened. The line I had always heard was that the men raping were confused about whether consent happened. An article Attack Laurel linked to had a study (very small, so hard to extrapolate from, but still very interesting) where as long as the word "rape" was not used men would self report accurately whether they had ever forced a woman. So these bastards KNOW what they are doing and just don't care. Aggggh! It makes me sick!

I just don't understand why folks cannot get it into their head that it is the assaulter's decision to rape. Not anything the victim does. The assaulter MADE that decision. That's like saying, just because you turned your back on your purse for 2 seconds, that makes it perfectly fine for someone to steal it because it's your fault you took your eyes of your purse (except rape is many times worse ( ... )
