So I decided to just go for it and take the train up to Jersey for the weekend. I was lucky enough to find round trip tickets for under $150, so I was pleased. I was also very excited - having never ridden trains long distance in this country before. Just to bring some closure - my return trip was much better, though it was at the complete opposite extreme. The ride back was very crowded and extremely HOT. But it wasn't completely uncomfortable like the previous trip.

I think I'll have to take another Amtrak trip to really be sure how I feel about them. Anyone have stories to share?
