Round 4 (Summer): Snowe

Spring at the Snowe household feels like it was forever ago...

But now it's summertime, and the Snowe-Morceau children are sprouting as rapidly as the garden. Both girls have their birthdays at the start of the season.

Geraldine:

Geraldine, as previously discussed, has the unstoppable Morceau look but has at least managed to inherit Virginia's red hair.

Eustacia:

(Lucky for both her and her sister, Thierry-face does make for a pretty girl.) Eustacia rolls knowledge as her aspiration, which is an appropriate match for her shy and serious personality. After all, she's been watching her aunt work at maxing out 7 skills since she was a wee babe, so it's not surprising that she's grown into an intellectually curious young woman.

Thierry, perhaps feeling sobered by the near-death of his son last spring, takes a renewed interest in his children, suddenly rolling all the family sim wants he'd been missing before.

Lucy receives the delivery of her sophomore literary effort but barely takes a moment to admire the finished product before it's time to celebrate a much bigger milestone: the end of construction on Virginia's art gallery.

Virginia's been imagining this day for years.  The Snowe sisters were the wealthiest of the settlers, having been what you might call socialites in Sim City. But Virginia knew their simoleons could only go so far in the competitive real estate market of Sim City. Moving to this remote hamlet not only gave her the freedom to concentrate on her painting without the distractions of the city's demanding social calendar, but also the financial wherewithal to finally build the gallery of her dreams.

The main gallery space. It's a bit grand for her first exhibition, but never let it be said that she dreams small.

The gift shop.

The patio.

The mezzanine. Originally intended to house the sculpture gallery, it's currently set up as an interactive art space for visitors.

The breakroom and upstairs lavatory.

The view down Main Street, with the yoga studio directly across the street.

Lucy and Virginia rush to finish up their last-minute preparations, and it's time for the grand opening!

Millie to Garden Clubbie: "Here we go again."

As the business grows, the plan is to have more artwork around just for viewing; but for the time being, it's sell sell sell!

Interior Butterfly Effects Generator: an installation piece.

It's very avant garde.

As she has so many times before, Millie Mole steps in to make the inaugural purchase. You're a trouper, MM.

They still need to hire a barista. One loose end from their opening night checklist, but they'll get to it another time.

Back at the house, Thierry continues to work on Project Decent Father.

He's making all the right moves, but is his heart really in it? Even he doesn't know for sure.

After school the next day, Eustacia ventures out to the town beach. She's heard this is where the cool kids hang out.

One of her new classmates, Marco, shows up, and------ hold up. What's happening up there behind them?

Jasper! Tabitha! Did you just--? Were you two--? But what about-- And also-- But I thought-- Bu-- Gah! Wha?

Jasper and Tabby: *don't care*

Down on the Not Crazy People Beach, Eustacia runs into trouble getting to know her new friend.

Tell us how you really feel, Marco.

Eustacia's only just entering her teenaged years, and it's extra hard to find her way through when she's so very shy. She never knows what to say.

(She's sooo shy but so nice!)

(She's so shy that taking a photo would be a major aspiration drain!)

He runs off, and she sits alone for a while, watching the waves as the sun sets over the water.

She can hear the laughter and merriment of the other beach visitors drifting down from the pavilion where they've gathered. It seems so easy for everyone else somehow.

Finding the darkness oppressive all of a sudden, Eustacia lights the bonfire and toasts herself a marshmallow. Other people are overrated. This marshmallow is where it's at.

And then! Through no prompting of my own, my dear, dear Piet leaves all his friends up at the barbecue and comes down to join her! He of course remembers what it was like to feel awkward and lonely and out of sorts as a teen. He gives her his best advice for dealing with the ups and downs of adolescence (which, I'd say, take with a grain of salt, Eustacia) and tells her what it was like in town when there were no other kids around at all. Aw.

Meanwhile,

Well, that's convenient, I suppose.

When she gets back, surrounded by the people she loves, Eustacia tries out the bongo drums she brought home from music class.

It's cathartic.

On another note, I was looking over my BaCC so far, and if I could have one major do-over, it would be not using anyone else's sims as settlers. When I was starting up, I'd just gone on a major download spree that basically reinvented my game after a few years of inactivity, and I was like, "Ooo, these sims are so pretty!"; plus, I was impatient to start the challenge and a little bored with BodyShop at the time. So I just threw them ( Thierry, Lucy, Virginia, and Jasper) into my game and got on with it (my other settlers were all existing sims rescued from my borked 'hood). On the one hand, it is nice to have the diversity, since other people's sims can be different from your own in ways that are not always immediately apparent. But on the whole, since I got my sim groove back, I really, really wish I'd created all of my settlers so I could feel like I had 100% ownership of the town.*

Other BaCCers, what are your thoughts looking back? Any do-overs?

*(Except for Jasper, because he is the cutest. Also, MissTiikeri told me he doesn't get enough attention in her game, so.)
