Thanks to a book of compiled essays and articles [which I cannot find at the moment otherwise I'd type the title] I have been relieved of my ignorance regarding feminism.

It really made me realize a number of aspects concerning sexual separation and I chastise myself for not empowering myself with these realizations before. So, here are my "before ( Read more... )

I want to talk to you about this some time.
A certain teacher I once had, who you totally hate, told me about this social experiment that was done by two of his classmates in his college days. For one of the biggest projects of their college career, a guy and a girl both worked together on an essay about feminism. The paper totally bashed feminism, saying it was completely misleading. It said that the only people holding women down are themselves, and claimed that men have never done anything to impede women's progress in society. The guy and girl each presented their project to a committee made up of community members who volunteered to grade it. They made sure to each sign up for different days, so that they would not get the same person seeing both of their projects. They also made sure to never once mention that another student had presented the same exact paper, but rather did their speech as if it was all their own words ( ... )

I don't totally hate that teacher just because I disagreed with one view of his! YOU need to stop hating the fact that I did that.

Hm, I liked that story. It totally had its own point.

Feminist is almost like saying dyke or something, to people, with what it connotates.

I agree with you Sara. I used to relate feminists to those angry black people who thought that the only reason they were being mistreated was because, they were black.

Now I relate feminists to the hero's that fight for freedom and equality, because they know that something is happening between the lines, that many individuals are blind to.

As for the women/girls(epically teenage girls) who do look up to these "models of real women". I compare them to the starving children of Africa.

"I'm sad, yes I am very sad that children in 3rd world countries are being starved to death. But I am also sad that there are girls here starving themselves so they can look like the skinny actresses on television."
- Margaret Cho

Maybe, just maybe there is some part of these girls minds that hasnt been brain washed by society and the ideas of what a woman should be that can realize whats going on is wrong and, yes, they can prevent it.

I think this calls for a revolution.
