2. Leonard Cohen ("it goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift, the baffled king composing hallelujah")

5. Paul Simon ("She's got diamonds on the soles of her shoes")

I feel that I know 3 but can't place it.

Yes and yes. I will reveal three if no one gets it, which is more than likely.

I never revealed # 3 to you. It was Gobo and Uncle Matt singing, in the first Fraggle Rock Episode Ever (which we saw) "Every day, the world begins again/Sunny skies and rain/Come and follow me..."

Also, Glinda/Elphaba musicalverse is one of the largest femslash pairings out there, so ha.

Haven't seen the musical, though, and I understand its character dynamics are quite different from the book.

Weird. I didn't see it. I mean, it could be read into it, but it's not text or subtext, in my mind.

Sexy Male Dude might be less interesting, but he also suits Elphaba far better than Glinda ever could.

Fiddlesticks. Cranky celibacy suits Elphaba.

Nope! An excellent guess, however.

It's a song that everyone in the world (practically) is much less likely to recognize. I'd be surprised if anyone got it.

The answer to three is "Every day, the world begins again/Sunny skies and rain" from a song in Fraggle Rock. It was a little mean of me to put a Fraggle ROck song up there, since no one was going to get it, but I couldn't resist the translation.

#1: "[red-winged] Blackbird singing in the dead of night..." -- Beatles.

#4: "I only taste the saline when I kiss away your tears." -- Duncan Sheik.

Still dunno 'bout #3, though. It's a bit more ambiguous than the others.

Yes and yes.

It's actually not that #3 is more ambiguous -- it's that it's a less popular song. I'd be surprised if anyone got it. chanaleh might, but even then mainly through overexposure to the Brother.

The answer to three is: "Every day, the world begins again,/Sunny sky and rain" from a song in Fraggle Rock. I liked the translation too much to not put it up, but I didn't think anyone would get it.

Oh no! I meant to tag along when Justin went to see Wicked in the hopes that some of his punk watchers-of-free-shows-on-MIT's-dime would be no-shows. Did you go with him?

Yup! Sorry. But on the other hand, I don't think he knew if anyone didn't show up -- there wasn't a mass gathering o' folk beforehand.
