There’s confetti of glitter floating like snow.
Landing everywhere.
On her shoulder.
In her hair.
He’s out of breath from hundreds of steps but that’s not why Ryan can’t breathe, why he can’t capture enough air.
“I love you,” he says and smiles when she tells him, “Thank you.”
He and Marissa were never perfect.
It was always messy.
Overly complicated
Never simple.
Rarely successful.
But there were moments when they shined and New Year's Eve was one of them as the clock counted down the seconds he had left to catch her.
Running up stairs.
