[he knows his father's exasperation even without seeing it. Suffice to say, it's enough to drag him down to the study about half an hour later, where he waits in the doorway, knocking quietly so as not to interrupt whatever it might be that Lucius is doing.]

[he enters quietly, remaining standing before his father until invited to sit. Such is only polite. He offers Lucius a small nod of greeting, but for the moment, says nothing. He doesn't know how to start.]

It's a phenomenon that occurs rather often here. People are awake one minute, then pass out the next for Merlin knows how long.
