Nelle held her binder at her side, balancing her algebra book on top of it. Fifteen full minutes of break before her next class. Fifteen minutes of freedom before entering the dreaded psychology class with the sweet-yet-stuffy fish of a teacher. Fifteen sacred minutes of simply roaming the halls, weaving through strangers and acquaintances in search of companions to share the sweet indulgence with. During this searching and seeking, she sighed frustratedly at having to shove through a group of the high school royalty, the charismatic people that everyone loved. With a quiet, "Excuse me," Nelle made it a good quarter of the way through the nobles. A warm hand gripped her shoulder. She turned and saw him. Ah, yes, the all-powerful king, the highest of the high, the leader of the pack: Cole Jants.

Cole was a tall-standing boy with a gentle face and a welcoming smile. His general precense was honored and very much talked about. A talented musician, he had agreed to accompany Nelle's piano score with a song she had written. "When are we gonna practice that song?" he asked.

Nelle paused and considered. He was a terribly spread-out boy. A socialite to the greatest extent. "Look, Cole, could we maybe talk in a quiet place? You're very easily distracted." She smiled entreatingly.

"Sure," he said, waving a hand at his group of friends and leadint he way to a mostly-abandoned stairwell somewhere near the lobby. "Shoot," he said, grinning that unbearable, gorgeous grin that he always did.

Nelle took a deep breath. "Okay. Umm...in order to do this song, I'm going to need at least one hour with you. Only you. I mean," she paused and sighed out a stale breath. "I have a feeling you'd be much easier to work with minus all the distractions. I think you'd be more focused. I'm just like everybody else, Cole. All I want is an hour of attention from you, exclusively placed with me and my song. I want just an hour. An hour where neither of us are doing backflips to try to show everything that we are at once. One hour where neither of us is spinning so fast under the lights to try and show off our facets. I mean, I just want one hour. I just want to be for a while. And I want you to be for a while. I suppose I'm saying I just want us to be...together."

There are some things a girl can say and she feels gorgeous just saying them. This monologue happened to be one of them. She smiled, a lovely blush climbing effortlessly up her cheeks as she glanced to the side and laughed a little, quite uncomfortable with the words she had just spoken. Cole said nothing for several seconds. Finally he spread his grin once more and said, "I would love to be with you. Maybe we can be on Friday in the music room and then be some more at the movie."

There are some things a boy can say that take a girls breath away. Anything Cole said would fall into such a category. Nelle nodded dumbly and let him guide her out of the stairwell with an arm over her shoulders. The bell signaled that two minutes were left until the beginning of the next class. She gasped and turned her face toward him. "I need to go. I'll be late." He wrapped her in one last hug before setting her free. Nelle smiled on her way up the stairs. Life is always a success when one lives it unabashedly.
