When we moved from the southeastern U.S. to Canada 4 years ago, one of the things my hubby and I had to get used to was the proliferation of pay phones and even phone booths.
It had been so long since we'd seen working "public telephones" that their appearance just pretty much CLANGed against our brains.
Well actually, outside a restaurant, where Rat and I were eating, I noticed a kid with a small, used bag. He took out his cellphone, looked up a number, and then called that number from the nearby payphone. All he said was "Ready? ... OK" and then hung up.
I believe we had just witnessed a drug supplier try to go under the radar by using an relatively untraceable pay phone.
