Barbies n' Grease

Oct 06, 2002 04:10

I'm a straight male in my late 20's and I own Barbie dolls. I don't collect them or anything, but over the years, I've amassed probably around 20 or so 'fashion dolls.' It's funny... when its sold in the action figure aisles, given a gun & holster, and its box has G.I. Joe written on it, it's called a "12 inch figure," but never EVER a "doll." ( Read more... )

I have tought the same thing about the rogers and hammerstein musicals. They always have these really stereotypical lame roles for the girls.

And I think its sweet that you bought a barbie with secret thoughts of a future daughter even though it is a little weird. :p

i suppose the same could be said for many of the older Disney cartoons too, but like Rogers & Hammerstein, I give them the benefit of the doubt simply because of the time period in which they were made. Plus, they're so damn charming. I wanna be the Prince someday. Maybe the Grease people didn't know any better.

And I'll settle for "a little weird." thanks. :P

That's what really bothers me in the movie - THAT line. It's pretty much promoting date-rape.

But you know what? That whole entry pretty much emphasized how charming you are. Don't thank me. :)

the ending of grease actually always bugged me.
i thought that if she had to change for him then forget about it.
but haha, it's still one of my favorite movies.

YOU! mudville October 8 2002, 22:30:42 UTC
Ya know, I've seen your icon on either Corie's or Melissa's journals. And I've always been tempted to comment on something you've written. BUT... I'd talk myself out of it simply because I didn't want you thinking I was shallow or perverted for striking up a conversation with "the girl with the nice fanny."

And I 'suppose' Sandy is just going to a different extreme than Danny is. He starts running cross-country. She starts smoking. Still, I don't think their relationship is gonna last. I hope she doesn't put out til he gets a steady job.

you know, i consider the fact that i have never seen grease the single greatest accomplishment of my life. this is very depressing, however.

I am POSITIVE that you have accomplished greater things than not seeing Grease. Still, you should be proud. But perhaps not for long, as Grease is really required viewing. Just not for young impressionable minds, methinks.

perhaps you are right, but i can't think of any such accomplishment. i've gotten through life surprisingly accomplishment-free thus far.

hmmm.

i just went back and read a bunch of random entries of yours from january and march of 2002. suffice to say, you are a very good writer. maybe you aren't an 'accompished' writer (as of yet), but that's bound to change. besides, you've made people think and feel and admire... and i'm not sure there's a better accomplishment out there.
