I hate to turn to /. for political commentary, but this comment hit the nail on the head.

The government of a state, no matter how inept it may be, is in place to serve the needs of its citizens.

Private health care, no matter how competent, is in place to generate profit for the private corporation operating it.

Yeah... I'm not a big fan of more government in general, but healthcare is one area I really don't think it's a good idea to be run by people seeking profit.
