Already posted this, because I saw it when it was leaked, but I'm reposting my Continuum post for the sake of the actual release.
And yes, I will be buying it too.
The Good
-Claudia Black as Qetesh FTW
amazing acting. It's a pity we didn't see more of her as Qetesh(or at least this Qetesh) in the series. AMAZING!
-EEEE!So many long lost characters, Nirrti, Camulus, Cronos, Apophis, Yu(-don't, every joke, every pun, it's been done), Walter, Hammond, Paul Davis, JACK! Charlie(off screen),
-bring Charlie back was a stroke of genius, or at least ingeniuty. I didn't see it coming.
-Ba'al is such a good villian and smokin' hot.
-Crazy, unvalidated Daniel - makes me laugh in every AU.
-the swearing! even more of it than in Ark of Truth.
The Bad
-Qetesh's dress - did Ba'al pick that out and make her wear it as some sort of punishment? Esh. Maybe Claudia Blacks portrayal of such a cold heart bitch Goddess was just the actresses hatred of that outfit shining through.Otherwise, someone in wardrobe should be shot.
-too many throw away apparences. So many characters didn't have reason to be there. As much as I liked them all the Goa'ulds, with the exception of Qetesh and Ba'al, none of them played a vital role AT ALL. Jack and Hammond, Walter and Paul Davis, also felt tacked on. Don't get me wrong I love these characters some of them carnally, but their role felt unimportant, they need more reason to be there, more screen time for Jack and switch Hammond and Landrays role, and more Walter screen time!
-missing characters: Bra'tac, possibly Doc Fraiser and Kowalski(time travel and AUs were involved).
-Could have used more back story as to how(and why) peoples lives in the AU took different paths. Just how different is this new AU? and Teal'c and Vala's lives coulda used some back story to. Another 15 minutes of exposition would not have been remiss.
-Jack's sorta death. Really? Was that it? 10 years of torture and death and resurrection and hardship and all it takes is a little stabbing actions and he's dead 13 seconds later? And while I enjoyed Carters (rather mild) reaction, is more than some absentee mindism too much to ask? He's DEAD! damn it people! EMOTE!
The HUH?
-I've heard this explains Carters leaving Atlantis, but I don't see how? Nothing important really changes, in fact nothing changes(except a photo-OOhh). It's Buffy's the Wish episode all over again.
-Was it really necessary to go up to the Arctic for the 3 minutes of shots? The sub rising was okay, but after all the build up....... Needs more sweeping shots, and walking. Make it worth your while, show the vastness of the Canadian North, like you did in Ark of Truth.
I'll buy it, but it wasn't as good as it could have been. It's like season 8 all over again.
Subject line is a shout out to how AMAZING Claudia Black's Quetesh was.
