Not much, and definatly not stripes or other plaid clothing.

Complementary colors. Say your plaid is mostly red: wear a red shirt. Your plaid is black and white: wear black, wear white. Go with the color that's most represented in the plaid and you can do no wrong. That's what most people do at least; however, I have this pair of black and white plaid pajama pants that go very well with my red D-Day Museum shirt, so it's really what's complementary to the plaid.

This is a good question to ask a Scot: matching those kilts is really hard.
