Wellz, when i think of gift giving.. one that is given out of spontaneity, not because its some holiday or something... i dont think the giver is really looking for something in return. I know in my case, when i gave a gift to someone... i wasnt expecting anything in return.. but i knew that person would like it... and it was satisfaction enough for me... knowing that person was grateful for it.
So, when it comes to the person receiving the gift, there's really no need to give back, but perhaps the only recipocation necessary.. is just showing your appreciation for it all.
That's ideally the case, that the gift stands alone as a spontaneous and thoughful gesture. But when someone gives more and/or more often than they should, it puts the recipient in an awkward position. (i.e. getting a Ferrari from a distance acquaintence.) Not that anyone is giving me expensive sports cars, of course, but the principle is the same.

that would make me feel awkward too...
when its given in over abundance...
from a distant acquaintance no less...
Hmmm... sounds more kinda like
someone being overly obsessed or something....
