A Conversation

John: *glares at pile of textbooks* You're not even in uni.
Me: I'm researching ready for when I go back!
John: That makes it worse.
Me: Preparation is my watchword.
John: *sigh*

Certainly not written by me, although I'm sure that would give everyone a laugh. I found it during my suffrage research and would like to fit it into the essay if I can.

A Modern Girl to Mrs Pankhurst

I never knew you; never came within your sphere
Of that most radiant personality
I rarely thought of you, nor knew I held you dear
Nor realised for what you stood to me;
For what I breathed in with my native air
For woman enfranchised, educated, free.

My career opens, before me rise the heights
Of beckoning high achievement I must scale.
Fear not, oh fighter of a thousand fights,
I am a true woman and I shall not fail.
But, as you pass on your last journey, proud and grave,
I, the heiress of the ground which you have won,
I cry, "All Hail!"

For anyone who read my last entry, my great gran died early yesterday morning. It's come almost as a relief to the relatives who watched her decline in recent years, and everyone is glad she isn't ill anymore.
