CRASH: a review

so im avoiding reading macbeth and so i give you my thoughts on the movie crash, which i watched at joe's over thanksgiving.

The plot of crash is as follows: racism.

The movie follows the lives of about a dozen people, all who live in LA, and all who run into each other through various contrived reasons. It starts with two black guys complaining about how just because they're black, everyone expects them to be gang members. They then proceed to hijack sandra bullock and her husband brendon frasier at gunpoint. The story involving these two black men is mostly them trying to steal cars, but most of their heists involve some sort of hitch, which is usually leads to them being racist against someone, or someone being racist against them.

Sandra bullock is the wife of the DA, and as such, spends most of her time complaining about black people, a mexican locksmith, her hispanic housekeeper, and various other races that she hates. Her story mainly just chronicles this racist whining, but eventually she learns a boring lesson after having a boring accident (the dullness of her accident is cleverly covered up by dramatic music and being shown in slow motion)

Brendon Frasier is the DA is who is trying to improve his image after him and his boring wife are hijacked. He tries to do this, but his racism gets in the way of him giving a medal to firefighter named 'osama' and so instead he decides to go after a white cop who is accused of being racist against black people after killing a black cop. ironically it is suggested that the white cop may not be racist.

Another story involves a mexican locksmith who is just trying to make an honest living fixing locks, and not being racist. He is thwarted, however, by racism. An iranian is racist against him, and then this eventually escalates to a shoot out, that has boring consequences, but this is cleverly hidden by dramatic music and being shown in slow motion.

This one persian guy is trying to make an honest living running a store with his family, but his racism eventually leads to an undesirable outcome, which is left unresolved. he learns a lesson though also, and learns to love mexicans, or at least their adorable children.

Don Cheadle and his partner/lover Jennifer Esposito are investigating a case where a white cop shot a black cop. Their relationship is rocky however, because of don cheadle's racism against hispanics. He also is trying to find his brother for his mother, who later blames him for losing his brother. He is forced to be racist at the request of the DA, who is trying to make himself seem not racist.

Jennifer Esposito is a minor character who is there so Don Cheadle can be racist towards hispanics, and to show some boob. She is also racist against the chinese.

Matt Dillon is a veteran cop who is extremely racist against black people, and assaults a successful black director, or more specifically, said director's black wife. He hates black people because his white father, who tried to help black people, lost his job because the city made hiring black contractors more preferable. He later saves the black wife in a car accident. Matt dillon's partner, ryan phillipe, believes himself to be not racist and asks for a different partner.

Ryan phillipe feels bad about racism, and is disgusted by his partner's sexual assault of the black wife of a black director, who he later helps get out of a sticky situation when the black director is about to be shot by racist cops. He later proves to be the most racist of them all when he shoots a black guy for no good reason, which probably means racism.

The movie tells the story of the stereotype of every race. every black person is loud, every arab barely speaks english, etc.

There may be a few more, but instead of going on i made a helpful chart to illustrate the patterns of racism. The arrows point to who was the butt of the racism.

as you can see, everyone is racist except mexicans, who are shining examples and moral upstanding citizens.

Lessons learned: Racism exists and is bad. racist people aren't neccessarily bad though, possibly just embittered. Everyone in LA runs into each other through some way every two days, and are racist to each other. mexicans are not racists, though are usually the butt of much racism. jennifer esposito is hot. Its okay to be racist, as long as you are only being racist to tell a story or teach some sort of lesson about racism.

welp, back to macbeth
