Lost: The Looking Glass

I originally wrote this post as a comment in alostcommunity. But after I wrote it I realized it nicely summed up my thoughts on last night's episode. There are a lot of spoilers in this post, so don't read if you haven't seen the season 3 finale, "Through The Looking Glass". Also I must apologize for breaking from the theme of this LiveJournal, books and ( Read more... )

charlies death was totally unnecessary and it made some of us think he may not REALLY be dead, although he probably is. first, why didnt he close the door from the other side and not lock himself in the room. and second, why didnt he climb out the hole! hello!!! also, who died? in the coffin...ben? and i'm assuming kate was speaking of sawyer when she said "he'll wonder where i am" but thats not certain either. AND is his father really dead b/c he kept mentioning him. he could either be crazy, which is possible, or he could be alive still....which in this show anything like that could be possible too. I was sad about Tom too. But I was glad Hurley saved the day. He deserved that. and i agree, if they are going to start flashing back to the island i don't know if i'm going to like that. it was not time to leave the island for the show, much less the characters. there was still too much unfinished business. we shall see i suppose. and is it really not til January/February???????? AAAGGGHHHHH

Charlie is probably dead, I think. He had to close the inner door to keep the water from flooding the rest of the station, so that Desmond wouldn't die. But... I kept thinking the whole time, why didn't Charlie put on the diving gear they found before entering the code? He knew he was probably going to drown, so it should have occured to him. Or maybe he just wanted to die, so that he could have sacrified himself for the greater good. I don't know ( ... )

Yeah, I guess that's true. I didn't think about that.

Or...maybe he could only lock that door from the inside. I mean, Desmond couldn't seem to get it open from the outside, so maybe that's why. I don't know.

I really did like Charlie and didn't want him to die, but after "Greatest Hits", I was pretty much content that he would, since they built up his death as a heroic sacrifice. As one of the writers said on that Lost special, the characters are always the most noble when they act out of the interests of the whole community.

Here is a review from a guy who usually has very insightful things to say about the show. I like his theory that the flashbacks from now on will show different characters' attempts to get back on the island, or investigate it and its history from the "real world", while still having island-centric episodes.

The only problem with that is that we'd then know who survives and who doesn't. No more surprise deaths. Of course, again, this may not be how the show will progress at all. It's quite possible that none of these theories will prove to be correct.
