Once upon a time, in kingdoms scattered across the lands, stories were given the breath of life.
This is your story. Take care to write it down lest you forget or be lost to the passing of time. Or perhaps something more insidious will happen if you refuse to share your tale...
In exchange, the pages held within will tell of stories all across this world, stories with which your own will cross. You can read them, tell them, change them with a simple pen stroke.
How, you ask? Simply take up a pen and write the lives you live. If you have no use for a pen, speak the story to the pages and it will transcribe your tale. If you wish for something to remain for your own reflection alone, write the word "Locked" before you continue and it will remain hidden from the other books that are linked together much like your destinies. If you only wish for certain books to see what you have experienced, write "Locked to" followed by those who are allowed to read the next chapter of your story so to speak. Similarly to reopen your book to all once more, just "unlock" it.
Upon reading another's story, you may also add to it, weaving the two together. All you need to do is respond in kind to the story you've read and your words will travel the world if necessary along the strings of fate binding these storybooks together.
Go on, give it a try. Live your stories and share them, change them and your fates.
(( OOC: This is what is written on the inside cover of each book, left as instructions of sorts to the characters. So basically this means that characters are now going to be writing in these "storybooks" that have appeared to each of them, and no, they don't know where they came from, they will simply appear to each in whatever way you wish. It's somewhat like a journal, but what they will fast discover is that they can read others' books from their own and even respond and reply back to one another via these books.
If your character is the type to ignore and neglect something like this because they have a stick up their ass are no fun and too serious for such a thing, they will also discover there are consequences for refusing to write in their storybooks. Hopefully they will be encouraged to use them out of sheer curiousity and then to communicate with others and avoid such a fate to start with though. >D
To write something like a journal entry (or if the character only wants certain people to see what they've written) just write the equivalent to a "private filter" by stating the following is "Locked". To end the lock, just note that it's ended or write "unlock" at the end of the section that is hidden to all or visible to only some.
If for whatever reason your character is unable to literally write, they can dictate to the open book and their words will be transcribed to the pages. These will be only what is said though, so if you are making animal noises or gibberish, that's what will be written as well. (Just to clarify, even if something is being dictated by voice, others are still only reading the results - it isn't as if the other books will speak out what was dictated.)
If someone is physically in the vicinity of the character, replies can be written as if they are action logs, as if the character read what was written and then has gone to speak to the character in reaction to it, but please note this so it is clear that is what you are doing. If someone is no where near the person they are replying to they are obviously limited to responding with text only via the storybooks.
In terms of action replies, the person who replies back first sets the format, whether this be third person narrative or the "short hand" mentioned before. All replies after this should follow the format set forth first.
And from hence forth, we will be using this format for RP. If you still wish to send letters, just label them as such in the subject line and tag them like you were doing so before. Obviously posts no longer have to have the format tags or subject lines, but other tags are still necessary as is the location being filled in. Thanks!
Edit: As for icons - they appear with the entries and replies like little illustrations in the books. These are the means that people can identify the different stories. However, usernames do not appear, obviously.
Edit: Books will, for those who cannot carry them due to animal conditions, lack of hands, etc, appear each morning near them. This also proves the case if one "misplaces" their storybook. Or if the storybooks come across "accidents." (ie Your character keeps destroying it? It will keep coming back. >D
Any questions or concerns can be commented to this post OOCly, of course.
Now have fun!~))
