Best of 2006 list
so here are my picks of the year. really the music section is the only concrete one. I'd love to hear everyone elses picks and what you think of mine. so here we go
Music:
1. Beruit - Gulag Orkestar
This album has totally grown on me. While not the same, it reminds me a bit of neutral mik hotel. i just love it, and everytime I listen I find some new part that I didn't hear before
2. Cold War Kids - Robbers and Cowards
This is probably my favorite of the year. Just plain excellent. Fun to drive, sing, and dance to
3. Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
4. Port O’Brien - Nowhere to Run
Actually an EP so I don't know if it counts, but I can't stop listening to it. There is something about the group singing that just gets in your head and won't leave
5. Tresspassers William - Having
I actually was much more obsessed with her second album, Different Stars, but this one came out this year and I love it as well. Very mellow and chill music. She reminds me a bit of Mazzy Star.
6. Thom Yorke - The Eraser
This one definately grew on me. at first it really didn't live up to expectations, but the more it played in the background the more I came to appreciate it. I still think that it could have been better, but my unreasonable expectations of Thom Yorke are no real reason to knock the album.
7. Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins - Rabbit Fur Coat
8. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
9. Bruce Springsteen - We Shall Overcome
What can I say...I love Pete Seeger, but I REALLY love Pete Seeger when it is actually Bruce Springsteen. This album brings me back to 5th grade and all the Americana songs we sang daily in history class. I love it.
10. Girl Talk - Night Ripper
This is a late entry since I only got the album last week, but I haven't stoped listening to it. This is actually a mash-up/mix of 150 different songs. really it is the best of the 80's, 90's, and todays all thrown together into one wonderful dance inducing 43 minutes of pure pop music joy.
