I don't even know...

At about 1:30 AM, just hours ago, I went out to the smoker's tent just outside my dorm to talk to a few people I saw out there. While talking to them, a couple cop cars passed along the nearby street, their lights flashing. One of these people, who I know as Fish, mentioned a nearby fight, apparently a sort of free-for-all that broke out between ( Read more... )

I should clarify. I never got close enough to the riot to get roped in, not while it was active. Afterwards, when it was quiet and there were nothing but onlookers, I went to ask a few friends of mine to leave before the riot police showed up, as I'd been told they would. That's the only time I got closer than about 50 feet from the cop car they overturned. Other than that, I stayed the hell out of it.

Thanks for your concern, though. I'm just fine. There are others I know to be in lousy condition. I saw one student running away from the riot, seemingly fine, but who showed me a hand cut up and covered in very fresh blood...I'm guessing broken glass in some way. But yes, I'm completely unharmed, except that I witnessed that. Never seen anything like it, still a bit shaken up is all.

*big hugs*
I'm glad you're safe. It's gotta be scary to watch that kind of gratuitous violence right before your eyes. It's understandable to be disillusioned by that school after watching something like that, but I guess my point is try not to let a few over-zealous bad apples color your impression completely.
Since hearing about this, the thought has crossed my mind "Would i want to move there and with kids, if this sort of thing breaks out on a regular basis?" but hopefully it dose not, so I'm not gonna let that make my decision for me.

Resist the inclination to believe what you want to believe. In these situations, you have to ask an astounding number of people an astounding number of questions to get close enough to the truth. I heard nothing about racism. I heard a completely different story about the fight. I heard the perspective of a campus security member, and the perspective of the police. Check and re-check your facts, kiddo. Hell, I'd been told from 50 feet away from the thing that the cop car I saw get flipped was the second one they'd done that to. There was no second flipped cop car. Information in these situations is so fucking suspect as to be near impossible to get right for certain. Thus, I worry when someone speaks as confidently as you are about the details.
