I never read Fear and Loathing (what school system makes their students read a drug book?) but I did read Dante's Inferno and did a huge project on it. It was quite interesting and it's fun to play the game of who goes in which level of Hell.
Other books that I had to read in school that I liked and suggest are Anthem by Ayn Rand, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, Maus by Art Speigelman, Endless Love by Scott Spencer, and If I Should Die Before I Wake by Han Nolan.
Happy Reading!

I would suggest reading Rea and Loathing out load, as its very entertaining. The Inferno is a classic but Purgatorio is interesting too.

I would second Maus by Art Speiglman

the tale of Genji.. read it!

Pride and Prejudice, I know I know, but it really good, and it'll win you man points
